Kalpakian is a lyricist and writer. She is the author of thirteen novels and over a hundred stories published in collections, anthologies, literary journals and magazines in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Kalpakian is the mother of two other Caprica alumni - composer Bear McCreary and songwriter-performer Brendan McCreary.
