Sagittarius is the ancient name for the colony of Sagittaron in the Battlestar Galactica universe. In astrology, it is the ninth sign of the zodiac, represented by the Archer.
The Colony
The Twelve Colonies were founded by tribes from Kobol, the birthplace of humanity. Two thousand years prior to the present (42YR), a disaster of a now forgotten nature forced the tribes to abandon their home. They journeyed to the Cyrannus Star System (a cluster of two binary systems) located two thousand light years away from Kobol. Sagittarius was the original name of the colony of Sagittaron.
Astrology
Sagittarius (Latin: "Archer") is the ninth sign of the zodiac, governing the period from about November 22 to about December 21. It is represented either by a centaur shooting a bow and arrow, or by an arrow drawn across a bow. The identification of Sagittarius as a mounted archer was made by the Babylonians as early as the eleventh century BCE.[1]
